The Summer of Wood & Iron

The people of New Hampshire embark on building the start of an economy around the revival of a north-south railroad.

C.T. Farnum is an ambitious promoter who recruits Charles, Tyler, and Martin to come up to Lincoln and help him get a hundred-year-old steam locomotive operational again. As daunting as that might be on its own, the preferred locomotive, Number 5, needs repairs that must be done in Manchester — a hundred miles away. Between Lincoln and Manchester lies Plymouth, a town controlled by militant socialists.

While all that is going on, the people of Cheshire become aware of mysterious people living in the woods — the Ferals.
